Postdoctoral Researcher In University Didactics In Physics (M/F/D) Job Id 19-61
In this project, physics instructors together with learning researchers address that challenge by personalizing learning with learning platforms adaptive to students’ individual learning needs.
Platform development will be based on a three-level model of cognitive, metacognitive, and motivational aspects of students’ solution strategies in practice tasks. Mastering fundamental physics concepts and methods defined as intended learning outcomes (ILO) will be used to track students’ support needs in the practice tasks, e.g. home works, and to give situation-specific assistance.

Phd Position Computer Science (M/F/Diverse) Job Id 18-74
Main research focus is on Array Databases. This NewSQL class of systems extends (relational) database models with query and storage support for large multi-dimensional arrays. In the Earth sciences these occur, e.g., as 1-D sensor time series, 2-D satellite maps, 3-D x/y/t image time series and x/y/z seismic data, and 4-D x/y/z/t climate / ocean modeling data.
Likewise, Life Sciences need array support, e.g., for 3-D/4-D brain images and gene expression data. “Large” in this context means Terabyte, Petabyte, and in future Exabyte sizes per single object. Queries range from simple data extraction to complex ad-hoc processing.
University Lecturer In Industrial Engineering (M/F/Diverse) Job Id 19-08
Teaching Responsibilities
• Introductory courses on manufacturing technologies, engineering design and strength of materials targeting Industrial Engineering and Management students
• Fundamental and advanced courses for the study programs Industrial Engineering & Management BSc and Supply Chain Management MSc (in agreement with background of applicant)
• Extensive supervision of BSc and MSc theses.
• Academic advising of BSc and MSc students.
2 Phd Positions In Electrical Engineering / Communications With Security Focus (M/F/D) Job Id 19-07
The PhD students will work on security-related topics, one devoted to physical-layer key generation for wireless and powerline channels, the other focusing on so-called TEMPEST. Physical-layer key generation determines cryptographic keys from symmetric physical channel properties that are not available to an eavesdropper.
We have first promising results for wireless channels and also powerline channels. Those methods are considered to be very important for the upcoming Internet of Things.
Regarding TEMPEST, we will investigate possibilities for attacks based on radiated signals from circuitry, up to the point, where we detect the signal type, possibly even recovering the data. The physcial-layer security project comes with a time limit of 1.5 years that we plan to further extend, the funding for TEMPEST already now covers 3 years.
For both topics, a very good knowledge of physical layer communication is required. The physical-layer security project will also require coding experience, especially LDPC codes. TEMPEST will be based on machine learning, compressive sensing, wavelets and other transforms.
The TEMPEST project is a collaboration with Hochschule Bremen and a company. At Hochschule Bremen, there will be a further opening for a PhD position. There, a stronger RF background will be required.
Phd Position – In Synthetic Organic Chemistry (M/F/Diverse) Job Id Ju-16-42
