The PhD programme in the Social Psychology of Everyday Life provides researcher education in theoretical and methodological approaches to investigating and understanding people’s everyday life. The programme is based on an interdisciplinary development of theory, knowledge and methodology, with particular reference to social psychological issues that relate to the relationship between persons and their social world. Thus, the programme is characterised by cross-disciplinary approaches to social-psychological issues in everyday life.

Central to this PhD project will be:

  • Conducting a systematic review of literature regarding NEET; NEET and mental health; NEET and economic and social well-being; Interventions for NEET
  • Development of an app for the NEET population using design thinking
  • Prototype testing
  • Design thinking in mental health innovation

The project includes 1-2 PhD fellowships, and is funded by the Norwegian Research Council. It is a collaboration between several partners: The University of Stavanger, the University Hospital in Stavanger, NAV Rogaland, Rogaland County Council, and the University of Texas at Austin, USA. The supervising team is multi-national and will contribute with expertise in design thinking, growth mind-set, psychology and mental health, and the NEET population.

The aim of this PhD project is to examine whether a naturalistic stress-reducing intervention program based on caregiver-infant contact can positively affect infant gut microbial colonization and infant behavioral and cognitive development. In a RCT, caregiver-infant contact in 3-month-old infants starting center-based childcare will be increased in the intervention group during the hours spent in childcare. Trained volunteers will provide this extra caregiver-infant contact.

The doctoral researcher will conduct research under the guidance of a supervisory team including local and international experts, with the aim of studying towards a PhD (cumulative; i.e., based on peer-reviewed publications) in Psychology. The doctoral researcher will predict critical educational outcomes by applying machine learning methods to big data emerging from educational large-scale assessments (e.g., “Épreuves Standardisées”, the Luxembourg school monitoring programme) and learning games (e.g., xCIT/DIGILEARN products such as Mathemarmite).

The candidate is expected to develop their PhD project around those objectives, and to define the precise outline and research questions in conjunction with all involved parties.

The successful candidate integrates University of Luxembourg’s interdisciplinary Human-Computer Interaction Group – a team that holds a strong experience in partnership projects. The PhD candidate will closely collaborate with the project partner CFL. Under the supervision of Prof. Vincent Koenig, the candidate gets the opportunity of completing a doctoral thesis in the area of Psychology / Human-Computer Interaction. S/he will have access to state-of-the-art facilities (e.g. user laboratory) and will be supported by CFL for all field- and customer-related matters.
