List of Travel Grants for conferences (International/National) for Indian Students
Here is the list of funding agencies that provide travel grants for attending National and International conferences for Indian researchers and students. These travel grants can be used to attend International conferences/seminars/ workshops. Do check the last option if you are finding it hard to fit in these travel grant eligibility.
DST International Travel Grant (International Travel Support, ITS)
ITS scheme is designed to provide financial assistance for presenting a research paper or chairing a session or delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc.). In addition, support is also provided to young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of conference) for attending training programmes and short-term schools/workshops/courses.
Economy class air-fare by shortest route, airport-tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. Registration Fee is provided to young scientist in addition to the above support.
EMBO Practical Courses and EMBO Workshops
A limited number of travel grants is available for eligible participants who are selected to attend EMBO Workshops, EMBO Practical Courses, EMBO | FEBS Lecture Courses, EMBO | EMBL Symposia.
IBRO Travel Grant: International Travel Grants International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO)
IBRO International Travel Grants aim to foster neuroscience research, especially in less well-funded countries, by providing support to high-quality neuroscientists from diverse geographic and scientific areas (US/Canada Region excluded), who wish to participate in international neuroscience meetings. Calls for applications are made twice per year (February and August).
ICMR Travel Grant: International Travel by Non-ICMR Scientists ICMR
- The Scheme provides financial assistance for presenting research paper or chairing a session as also delivering a lecture / delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (Conference/Seminar/Symposia/Workshops) to Non-ICMR Bio-medical Scientists.
- In addition, support is also provided to young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of Conference), nurses and paramedical staff for attending training programmes and short- term schools/workshops/courses on the basis of the priority areas already defined.
- Full excursion class air fare by shortest route, airport tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. Registration fee is provided to young scientists in addition to the above support.
- The Council will provide financial assistance max. of Rs 1,50,000/- to selected candidates.
Conference, Travel, Exhibition and Popular Lectures (CTEP) Programme
To popularise Biotechnology activities in India, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India provides financial assistance towards organizing Conference/ Seminar/ Symposium/ Workshop and Travel support to the researchers for presenting their papers in the conferences which are being organised outside the country.
It also extends support for organising DBT stalls in Exhibitions held within the country as well as outside the country. Financial supports are also provided for organising Popular Lectures. The collective term for these four activities is CTEP (Conference, Travel, Exhibition and Popular Lectures).
Ratan Tata Trust and Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust Education grant- Travel grants
The Individual Grants Programme (Education) offers financial assistance schemes catering to varied needs of individuals. Travel Grant open after April 15, 2019.
IBM Travel Grant for Resident INDIAN Students and Researchers
About 10-15 student travel grants will be available. The travel grant includes a waiver of registration fees for both conference and tutorial, train fare by shortest route in III-tier sleeper class (non-AC), hostel-type accommodation and some support for local hospitality. Student authors are given priority.
About 10-15 travel grants will be available for researchers from academia. A travel grant will be either a waiver of 50% registration fee for the conference (depending on the merit of the case, it may be a full waiver, but the chance of a full waiver is low) or support for train fare by the shortest route in III tier sleeper class (non-AC), moderate accommodation with some support for local hospitality.
National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) (DAE)
NBHM provides partial or full travel assistance to mathematicians for attending conferences, symposia, summer schools etc. within the country or abroad.
Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS) Travel Grants
Since 2003-2004, IARCS has made available grants for partial support to travel to conferences and other academic meetings in all areas of Computing Science, both in India and abroad.
- From 2014, these grants are jointly sponsored by ACM India. With this additional funding, the quantum of support available for individual grants has been enhanced. The application procedure remains the same and the grants will continue to be administered through IARCS.
Inlaks Research Travel Grants
The ‘Inlaks Research Travel Grant’ offers financial support for a maximum of 3 months at a university/institution/library abroad. The grant will cover:
- Reasonable air fare
- Maintenance expenses at a modest rate
- Funds for buying material and books, and making copies of relevant literature

FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO STUDENTS FOR ATTENDING INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE/SYMPOSIUM.
Types of support and Eligibility Two types of financial support are –
1) Financial Assistance. 2) Refundable Advance
The Association of Scientists, Developers and Faculties Travel Grants
The Association of Scientists, Developers and Faculties offers Travel Grants upto 90% for the ASDF Life Members for attending Research Conferences out of their Country. ASDF extends financial assistance to attend International events out of the presently residing country.
This Grant aims to promote Research and Development in technical education by way of providing opportunity to the meritorious members of ASDF to interact at International level.
Indian Emblem Indian Council of Social Science Research Travel grant
The aim of this programme is to assist invited social science scholars to make substantial contributions to international seminars/conferences of significant importance. By doing this, it promotes academic links amongst the social scientists in India and abroad, provides opportunity to develop new insights and to enlarge their research perspective and contribute to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in social science subjects.
Indian Council for Historical Research
ICHR gives grants for Foreign Travel and maintenance abroad and for visit of Foreigns Scholars. Citizen of India wishing to study at archives, museums, libraries or private collections abroad for collection of source material, or to take part in a workshop, seminar or conference abroad for presenting a paper related to History, or to receive training in a specialised branch of History can apply for this grant.
The World Academy Of Sciences (TWAS) Research Grants
TWAS funds several programmes that provide grants to researchers in some developing countries for specialized equipment, consumable supplies and Master of Science students. Individual scientists and research groups can apply for this grant.
Indian Institute of Metals SJEF travel grants
IIM gives Swarna Jayanti Endowment Fund for for Partial Travel Support for Young Scientists for attending International Conferences
Royal Society of Chemistry Travel Grants
RSC gives conference travel support, Subject specific conference travel and research visit support Up to £800 is available for travel for PhD students and chemical scientists (including technicians) within 10 years of leaving full time education.
Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) (International)
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds awards Travel Grants to junior researchers who are currently conducting an experimental project in basic biomedical research and wish to pursue a short-term research stay or attend a practical course of up to 3 months.

Soffen Fund Travel Grant
Two awards in the amount of $500 will be presented at the deadline, contingent upon acceptance of the recipients’ conference abstracts. Recipients must be able to attend their conference using the Travel Grant and, if necessary, support from other sources; supplemental funds above the $500 award cannot be requested from the Soffen Fund.
SIAM Travel Grant
Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is a community of over 14,000 members from fields such as applied mathematicians, life science, geoscience, computational etc. They host numerous SIAM hosts conferences and most of them have travel support. SIAM gives $3,40,00 travel awards every year. They have Early Career Travel Award as well as Student Travel Award.
Hello Bio Travel Grant
Hello Bio is a company that sells products such as enzymes, agonists, antagonists, antibodies, fluorescent tools etc. They give $500 Travel Award every month. All you need is just be a current post-graduate or post-doctoral researcher, provide a detailed breakdown of what the money will be used for, and a short statement from your supervisor / PI to confirm your application.
Mary D. Sheriff Research and Travel Award
The Mary D. Sheriff Travel and Research Award is sponsored by ASECS and by HECAA, the Historians of Eighteenth Century Art and Architecture. It supports the study of feminist topics in eighteenth-century art history and visual culture. The award of $2,000 is given every other year, beginning in 2019.
CrowdFund Your Conference
If for some reasons, your travel grant do not fit in all these grants or you failed to receive a positive reply from any of the above. You can apply for CrowdFunding to get a conference grant. A crowdfunding platform where people can launch campaigns and receive donations to attend their meetings.
